Terms of Use
Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of PocketMates, a family finance tracking app for couples ("PocketMates", "the app", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use PocketMates.
See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data — it's incorporated into these Terms by reference.
Eligibility
PocketMates is intended for adults managing household finances. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction if that is higher, to create an account and use the app.
Your household
PocketMates organizes data around a "household" — a shared space for you and, optionally, one partner (maximum two members) to track finances together. Whoever creates the household can invite a partner using a 6-character invite code; either member can leave, but removing the other member or deleting the household affects both accounts' shared data.
You're responsible for the accuracy of the data you and your partner enter, and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. We can't verify the accuracy of transactions, balances, or account information you provide.
At this time, an account can belong to only one household. Joining a new household typically means leaving your current one.
Subscriptions (PocketMates Premium)
Some features (unlimited accounts, full transaction history, budgets, goals, savings plans, auto-categorization rules, and others shown on the paywall) require a PocketMates Premium subscription, billed and managed through your App Store account.
- Subscriptions auto-renew for the length and price shown at the time of purchase, unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Your App Store account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period, at the then-current price.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription any time in your device's App Store account settings — PocketMates cannot cancel it for you.
- Refunds are handled by Apple according to Apple's own policies, not by us directly.
- A subscription is shared across your household: either member's active subscription unlocks Premium for both.
From time to time we may offer a free, non-auto-renewing promotional trial of Premium (for example, from an in-app prompt) as a goodwill gesture — separate from any introductory offer configured on the subscription itself. A promotional trial doesn't obligate you to subscribe afterward, is limited to one per household, and access reverts to the free plan automatically once it ends unless you separately subscribe.
Free plan data retention
The free plan is limited to the current calendar month: you can only view or edit transactions dated in the current month. Transactions from earlier months are automatically archived once the month ends, and archived transactions are permanently deleted 30 days later unless your household upgrades to Premium before then.
Premium households aren't subject to this limit and keep their full transaction history for as long as the subscription is active.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for anything illegal, or to store or transmit data you don't have the right to share (including a partner's financial information without their consent).
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent any part of the app, including subscription or free-tier limits.
- Abuse the household invite system (e.g. repeatedly creating and abandoning households to bypass free-tier limits).
- Interfere with the app's infrastructure or other users' access to it.
We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these Terms.
Your data and content
You own the financial data you enter into PocketMates. We don't claim any ownership over it, and we don't sell it or use it for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail on what we collect and how it's stored and protected.
You can delete your transactions, accounts, or your entire household at any time from within the app; deleting your household removes the shared data for both members.
Third-party services
PocketMates relies on third-party services to work, including Firebase (authentication, database, hosting), RevenueCat (subscription management), Monobank's API (optional bank sync), Finnhub (investment prices), and, for an opt-in Premium feature, Apple's on-device Apple Intelligence models. Each is governed by its own terms, and we're not responsible for their availability or behavior. See the Privacy Policy for details on each.
Disclaimers
PocketMates is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. Budgets, forecasts, exchange rates, and any AI-generated insights are estimates for informational purposes only — they are not financial, tax, legal, or investment advice, and you're solely responsible for your financial decisions.
We don't guarantee the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that Monobank sync, exchange rates, or third-party data will always be accurate or available.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PocketMates and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including financial losses resulting from decisions made using the app's data, budgets, forecasts, or AI-generated insights, or from data loss (including data deleted under the free-plan retention policy above). Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Termination
You can stop using PocketMates and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or discontinue the app or features within it with reasonable notice where practical.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use PocketMates after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
